Faculty of CS & IT Showcased the technology posed at Centre for Research in Emerging and Applied Technologies , UOG at Connect 2011 Information and Communication Technology Exhibition & Conference.
Dr. Muddesar Iqbal Director Faculty of CS & IT showcased his research at 6th Information and Communication Technology Exhibition & Conference (Connect 2011) held from 03-05 of May, 2011 at Karachi Expo Centre. Project Manger IT, Ikram Ul-Haq and Research Assistant Saqib Rasool Accompanied him during the three days event The event showcased the cutting edge technologies and solutions such as 3G, IPTV and Mobile Broadband and will offer enhanced prospects for new commercial ventures.
CONNECT 2011 will catered to a broad range of sectors in the ICT industry and brought business professionals together under a lucrative environment. There were limited stalls those were funded by the HEC. HEC invited proposals from all the universities across the country on the research project and Centre of Research in Emerging and Applied Technologies (CREAT) at Faculty of CS & IT at UoG was selected among the twelve finalists Universities those were selected to showcase their research work at Complementary 3X3 meter stall at the exhibition. NUST, LUMS, NED, COMSATS, Fatima Jina Woman University, University of Baluchistan were among the other finalists. A free two pages advertisement were also published on the research work being done at CREAT in the exhibition catalog which was distributed to the exhibitors and visitors.

Dr. Muddesar Iqbal presented his invention “SwanMesh: A dual radio wireless mesh network router” at the Connect 2011 exhibition. The Router provides a self organized, self healed self managed alternative communication network for disaster management and can be established on the disaster site within minutes. The device was invented in collaboration with Several International University out of SwanMesh University UK is the key player which has also funded the Research testbed established at CREAT , UOG. BS finals years student faculty of CS&IT are currently working on the SwanMesh project which is running in collaboration with Swansea University UK.

During the showcasing events Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari the Minister of Youth Affairs for the Government of Sindh, Pakistan visited the UoG stall and admired the research work. The GM IT/Coordination National ICT R &D fund Mr. Muhemmed Ahmed also visited the stall and a demo of SwanMesh wireless Mesh network for application disaster management was given to him. A detailed discussion was held with Mr. Ahmed who co-ordinated with Manager Project Evaluation ICT R&D fund Mr. Humayun Altaf Khan and requested him to visit the stall who also visited the stall with his team member on the same day. A detailed demo was given to him and further proposal was discussed with estimated funded required to enhance the SwanMesh for application in disaster management. Mr. Khan gave a very positive feedback and showed a keen interest in further funding the project through ICT R & D fund. Contact details were exchanged and Mr. Ahmed invited Dr. Iqbal to apply for the ICT R &D fund to undertake the proposed work discussed during the meeting.
